Term 2 is now underway and children are quickly settling back into routines. We now have 24 children. We welcome Erica, Harrison and Mosese who started in our class this week.
1. Thank you to all those parents whom were able to assist with our trip to the beach at the end of last term. I feel it was very worthwhile and the children got plenty of exercise.
2. This week we are having our ANZAC service and you are all invited on Friday at 9:30 am. It will be our only assembly this week. This week we also start our Science topic on forces. Please talk to your children about their Science this term as we will be doing some exciting things.
Also, you may like to visit this website for some extra activities. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/6_7/science_6_7.shtml
3. Homework
Please ensure your child continues to bring their homework books and book bag to school each day. Each child has ongoing homework to be done when time allows. This term NEWS time on a Friday will become more education focused. I would like the children to bring a news picture to talk about (photo or newspaper cutting) instead of toys or playthings from home. We would like to develop a more current events type oral language time.
New children to the class, I am sending home additional sheets for Maths and Spelling. Wordlist 1, 2 and 3 are for learning to read and then to be used as a spelling list. When your child can recognise List 1 he/she then needs to learn to spell the words, then they can move on to list 2 etc.
The Maths sheet is for you to see some of the knowledge and strategies your child needs to master their particular stage. Last term we were concentrating on children knowing off by heart their doubles to 20 and their number facts to 10. This term we progress to counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.
Older children are working on adding and subtracting tens and ones.

The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch
retold by Fynn Stevens
Mr Grinling works at his lighthouse.
He polishes the lighthouse mirrors.
On Monday the seagulls ate Mr Grinling's lunch and Mr Grinling
was mad.
On Tuesday they put a cover on the basket and the seagulls took it off.
On Wednesday they put Hamish in the basket. Hamish was scared and the seagulls ate the lunch again.
On Thursday they put mustard in the lunch. The seagulls said "Yuk! Ugh! Aaaaak!
On Friday the seagulls said "come on boys its mustard."So the seagulls did not come back.
