At Glenbrook School, we operate a house system. The houses, or whanau groups are called Totara, Taraire, Puriri and Kahikatea. All children are assigned to a whanau on enrolment.
Each whanau is headed by a leader and deputy leader who are elected from the Year 8 students by the senior school students. The nominees have to prepare a short speech as to why they would make good leaders.
Throughout the year, children earn points for their whanau through participation and achievement at sports days and organised events. On such days, children are encouraged to wear the colours of their house and support their whanau members as they compete.
The successul candidates for 2011 are:
| Whanau | Leader | Deputy Leader |
| Totara | Brendon TeKanawa | Brendan Millar |
| Taraire | Finn Bradley | Jessica Clarke |
| Puriri | James Sutcliffe | Kaitlan Crompton |
| Kahikatea | Giana Shilcock | Makia Brown-Ikitule |
