Term 2 Newsletter.
Dear Parents and Caregivers
I am very excited to be teaching in Te Marama for five weeks. It is great that I already know all of the children and they know me, so we will make the transition period between Mrs. Gilsenan-Reed leaving, and Mrs. Jones arriving, as smooth as possible.
Our term topic focus is based around 'The Physical World' which includes carrying out investigations and experiments to do with magnets, sound, electrical circuits and forces.
Our written language will link to our science investigations as children learn how to write an explanation.
Music, Art and Technology will be based around designing, making, decorating and playing a musical instrument as we study the types of sounds instruments make and how we can alter pitch and volume.
I will send home reading every night. Sometimes there might be a follow up activity to be done after you have read with your child. Please record your nightly reading in the Reading Journal. If your child still has a book bag, please send it along each day. This is a good way of keeping the books and journals safe. If you no longer have one, book bags can be purchased from the office, or a suitable alternative could be found at home, (like a shopping bag).
Homework will be handed out on a Monday and marked at school on Friday. It will contain nightly reading, maths practice, spelling practice and some optional extras. I totally understand that families are busy, and that there are times when getting homework completed can be too overwhelming. Please just add a note to the homework and sign it. Homework sheets can also be downloaded from the homework page. http://www.glenbrook.school.nz/6/pages/62-homework
It is important that the children bring their homework books to school every Friday.
If at any time you have concerns please contact me to discuss things, either at school, or drop me an email on simnor@clear.net.nz
I am looking forward to a productive, interesting, fun five weeks with your child.
Kind regards, Heather Simnor
