Room 6 Newsletter

Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Tenaa koutou students and families of Room 6 2010. I hope you have all enjoyed the holidays and I think we all deserve congratulations for getting back into the routine of school life with relative ease this week!

This week I have had the pleasure of getting to know the students of Room 6 while working on behavioural expectations for the year with them. Next week we will be working through skills they will need to get their work completed and an awareness of bookwork expectations. Asttle testing in Reading, Writing and Maths will also take place next week. The results from the testing are valuable for knowing what each student requires to get them to the next step in their learning.

The school wide integrated topic for this term is Maori Studies. Social studies, music, dance, visual arts and language will have a Maori focus.

Addition, subtraction and statistics are the focus in maths for the first half of the term and patterns in numbers and geometry follow for the rest of the term.

Comprehension skills will be a particular focus in reading.  Recount writing and story writing will be explored for published writing.

Swimming is our P.E focus with daily swimming this term for as long as the weather is warm enough for us.

It was lovely to meet so many parents of the students in room 6 on the first morning back. I can see that our class have caring support from home. May I say that our class is your class and you are welcome any time.  If you have any queries or concerns that may require my attention please do not hesitate to get in contact with our wonderful office lady, Linda and she will organise a meeting for us to talk things through.

Again I truly look forward to working with the students of room 6 this year. May the New Year be an enlightening and productive one for us all!

Regards Janice Howe
